چکیده

Jimmy appeared to be a normal child and when he was three and had bronchitis his parents were shocked to be told that he had congenital heart disease. He was, however, able to do everything like other boys and seemed so healthy that they thought less and less of this, until when he was about 12 he became more breathless on playing games: he had gradually developed highcoloured cheeks and his face and hands went blue in cold weather more easily than other children. When he was 18 he began to find life difficult for the first time: he could not cycle or run so well and became blue with exertion as well as with cold. Within a few months he could not walk so far and could no longer manage his work. This is a characteristic story of a child with simple pulmonary stenosis which is defined as congenital pulmonary valvular stenosis with a closed ventricular septum. The picture is, however, very varied for some patients remain well and acyanotic for much longer, and others become cyanotic and disabled earlier.

Pulmonary Valvular Stenosis with Intact Ventricular Septum and Right Aortic Arch.

Pulmonary valvular stenosis with right-sided aortic arch and an intact ventricular septum is a rare anomaly. Brock and Campbell (1950) and Abrahams and Wood (1951) stated that the aortic arch was left-sided in simple pulmonary valvular stenosis. Three years later, Campbell (1954) reported one patient with a right aortic arch from a series of 75 cases of pulmonary valvular stenosis with an intac...

Integrated Percutaneous Atrial Septal Defect Occlusion and Pulmonary Balloon Valvuloplasty

Introduction: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases during childhood. Today, ASD closure is done by occlutech device via cardiac catheterization. ASD repair with transcatheter technique has shown high closure rate. However, coexistence of severe pulmonary stenosis and large defect in atrial septum is rare. When these two problems coexist, the result is i...

Long-term (10 to 13 Years) Follow-up Study after Transventricular Pulmonary Valvulotomy for Pulmonary Stenosis with Intact Ventricular Septum.

IN THE LAST 15 years surgical methods for the relief of the pulmonic obstruction in patients with pulmonary stenosis and intact ventricular septum have been successfully developed.1-6 Although the open-heart technic with the use of cardiopulmonary bypass is today the procedure of choice, the classic Brock's transventricular valvulotomy is still preferred for small infants.7-9 The final conclusi...

Valvulotomy for Pulmonary

An earlier paper, reporting 3 successful cases (Brock, 1948), showed the feasibility of valvulotomy for the relief of pulmonary valvular stenosis. The present paper deals with our clinical and operative experience in 33 cases-a number large enough to allow certain conclusions to be drawn. Of the 33 patients submitted to operation, 18 had pure pulmonary stenosis, by which we mean pulmonary valvu...

Pulmonary valvular stenosis: the infundibular factor in relation to valvotomy.

It has been found that after pulmonary valvotomy for pulmonary valvular stenosis with an intact interventricular septum a satisfactory fall in right ventricular pressure is not always achieved immediately. In order to explain this, Kirklin, Connolly, Ellis, Burchell, Edwards, and Wood (1953) concluded that before the development of open heart surgery there were two main reasons: (1) failure to ...
